Hi everybody! God Save the King by Robert Fripp and the League of Gentlemen is one of my favorite albums and Trap is my favorite song on the disc. So, I decided to figure it out and share. If you don't already have this album, get it now! This song is EXTREMELY difficult, on a par with and in some parts above Fracture in terms of impossibility. So don't be discouraged if you're not getting it on the first (or fiftieth) try. I broke the song into patterns which repeat and change noticably. I. This is what the starting pattern looks like (repeat until the change). *----------------------------------- *----------------------------------- *----------------------------------- ----3------3-----3------3-------- ---------------1-----4------------ -1-----4-------------------------- II. This is the next pattern, identical but in A#. *------------------------------------ *------------------------------------ -----3-------3------3-------------- -----------------1------5---------- -1------4--------------------------- *------------------------------------- III. The pattern, slightly varied, moves to C. *------------------------------------- *------------------------------------- -----5------5-------5--------5----- -----------------5--------6--------- -3------6--------------------------- *------------------------------------- The song then repeats I, II, III, I, and III. IV. Then we get this, which is difficult. *-------------------------------------- *-------------------------------------- -------6------6--------6-------6---- -------------------5--------8--------- --4-------8--------------------------- *--------------------------------------- V. *--------------------------------------- *---------------------------------------- --------8------8------8-------8-------- -------------------6-------10------------ ----6-----10---------------------------- *------------------------------------------ VI. *------------------------------------------- *------------------------------------------- -----10------10--------10-------10----- --------------------10-------11---------- -8-------11------------------------------ *-------------------------------------------- VII. Some nice tritones. =3D) *--------------------------------------------- *--------------------------------------------- --------12------12--------12---------12---------------------------------- *-------------------------------------------------- -----------------------11--------14-------------------------------------- *----------------------------------------------------- ---10-------13----------------------------------------------------------- *---------------------------------------------- *------------------------------------------------------------------------- *------------------------------------------ VIII. *--------------------------------------------- *--------------------------------------------- -------14--------14-------14--------14--- -----------------------14-------15--------- --12--------15----------------------------- *--------------------------------------------- IX. *--------------------------------------------- *--------------------------------------------- ---------15-----15--------15----15------- ----------------------14------17----------- ----13------17------------------------------ *--------------------------------------------- VIII again. Little bridge part. *------------------------------------------------------------------------- *-------------------------------------- *------------------------------------------------------------------------- *-------------------------------------- *------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---1--3--1------------------1-3-5-- -----------3-------------3--5---------3------------3--5---------3-------- 1--3--1--------3--------1-3-5--- ---3---6-----6--3---6---------3--6-----6--3--6---------3--6-----6--3----- ------3--6-----6--3------------ *------------------------------------------------------------------------- *--------------------------------------- Repeat I, II, III, I, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, VIII Similar bridge. (Four Times) *------------------------------ *------------------------------ -------3--1----------3--5-- -----1-3--1------1--3--5--- --3------------3-------------- *------------------------------- Then there is a simple Fripp solo which I assume is a guitar synth. I'm not going to write out the whole solo but the basic parts which are repeated (separated by x). The first two are the kind of pattern it is and the rest are very abbreviated. You'll need to bend the last one on a <22 fret guitar. --6--8-8-8-6-8-8-8-x-8-10-10 10-8-10-10-10-x--10-11--x-11-13-x-13-15--x-15-18-x-18-20-x-20-22x22-23 --4--6-6-6-4-6-6-6-x-6--8--8--8--6--8--8--8---x--8---9---x-9--11--x-11-13 -x-13--16-x-16-18x-18-20x 20-21 -----------------------x------------------------------x-----------x------ ---x---------x----------x--------x---------x--- -----------------------x------------------------------x-----------x------ ---x---------x----------x--------x---------x---- -----------------------x------------------------------x-----------x------ ---x---------x----------x--------x---------x--- -----------------------x------------------------------x-----------x------ ---x---------x----------x--------x---------x--- Right after the solo begins the last part of the song, which is the hardest. The parts are pretty simple but played at Fripp speed (I'm sure you know what I mean). Like before, the individual parts: a b *-------------------------------------------x----------------------------- *------------------------------------------- *-------------------------------------------x----------------------------- *------------------------------------------- --8----10----------8---10---------------x---13----------------------13--- *------------------------------- -----8------10--------8-----10----------x--------13--15-----------------1 3--15---------------------------------- -----------------8----------------8-------x------------------15---------- ------------15----------------------------------- *-------------------------------------------x-----------------------13---- ------------------13--------------------------- play a again, and then *----------------------------------------------------- *----------------------------------------------------- --15------17--------------15--------17------------ ------15-------17--------------15-------17-------- ----------------------15----------------------15---- *------------------------------------------------------ Then the song starts up again. This is by far the hardest riff in the entire song. F minor, c#, d# section -----------13------------11--------------------- ---11----------13-----------11-13------------- -------10----------10----------------13-------- *-------------------------------------------10----- *--------------------------------------------------- *--------------------------------------------------- Now play III, IV, V and IV. Then VII, VIII, IX, and VIII The song ends with *------------------------------------------------------------------------- *------------------------------------------ *------------------------------------------------------------------------- *------------------------------------------ ------1--3--1-----1--3--5-----1--3--1----1--3--5-----1--3--1----1-3-5---- 1-3-1----1-3-5---------------- ------1--3--1-----1--3--5-----1--3--1----1--3--5-----1--3--1----1-3-5---- 1-3-1----1-3-5---------------- --3-------------3------------3-----------3------------3------------3----- ----3---------3------------4---------- *------------------------------------------------------------------------- *------------------------------------------ Whew!
